🥃 Scapa 16 Year Old comes from Scapa Distillery, one of only two distilleries on the Orkney Islands, the northernmost point of Scotland for malt whisky production and maturation. Here, the whisky ages in a constantly changing maritime climate right by the sea, which lends a delicate salty edge to the spirit. Production remains limited, with only two small stills and about 360,000 litres of alcohol per year, making this malt relatively rare.

The fermentation process is unusually long, over 100 hours, encouraging the creation of a particularly pure and light spirit. For the first distillation, Scapa uses a Lomond-style wash still, designed to produce a lighter, more fruity distillate. The malted barley is entirely unpeated, in order not to mask the subtle flavours and aromas.

Scapa 16 is matured in bourbon casks

🛢️, bringing creamy vanilla, gentle sweetness and a touch of coconut, enhanced by a faint maritime salinity from the seaside warehouses.

In the glass, it shows a rich copper-gold colour. On the nose, it is soft and velvety, with sweet clementine, heather honey and vanilla, along with delicate floral and malty notes.

On the palate, it is rich yet perfectly balanced, with a silky texture. Baked apples, gentle ginger spice, citrus and smooth oak develop gradually, without any peat. The flavours remain elegant and rounded, with honeyed malt at the core.

The finish is rich and persistent, slightly dry with a light coastal accent and a lingering hint of honey and spice. A beautifully crafted island single malt for those who enjoy unpeated, refined whiskies, ideal as an after-dinner dram or for quiet, contemplative moments.
