🥃 Goldlys Belgian Double Still is distilled and matured in Bachte-Maria-Leerne, a small village in Flanders. The nearby river Lys not only inspired famous painters of the Latem School, it also brought prosperity to the region through flax retting. The flax gave the water golden reflections, earning it the nickname “River of Gold” – the same golden glow that inspired the name “Goldlys” for this whisky.

Produced using a “double still” distillation style, Goldlys aims for a pure, light and supple spirit. The result is a whisky with a relatively light body, yet smooth and well-balanced, making it an excellent choice for relaxed tastings or as a refined aperitif.

In the glass, the colour is pale gold and bright. On the nose, cereal notes stand out, with hints of vanilla, cream and fresh grass, evoking the fields along the river.

On the palate, it shows gentle spice with sweet fruit – ripe pear – layered over cream and hazelnut notes. The texture is soft and slightly creamy, with an easy-drinking character that invites another sip.

The finish is fairly persistent, with flavours of butter, dark chocolate and, later on, a touch of liquorice that slowly appears. The taste is pleasantly surprising for a relatively young whisky and benefits from a few drops of water to fully open up. A charming aperitif whisky and a fine introduction to Belgian whisky craftsmanship.
