About the domain

A property whose name comes from two former owners: Simon Malescot, advisor to Louis Château Margaux. Its vineyard is based on Pyrenean gravel soil which stores daytime heat and returns it to the vines at night. The influence of the ocean provides lovely freshness to the berries. Jean-Luc Zuger has run the estate since he succeeded his father Roger in 1994. Since the beginning of the 1990s, the wines have been much richer and more intense and with greater regularity, they have been also much refined, now offering superb, very delicate textures.

About the vintage

Since its takeover in 1994 by Jean-Luc Zugler, the castle is today in the hands of the duo that the latter forms with his daughter. Both have the ambition to raise their Third Grand Cru classified in 1855 to new heights. The great wine, which represents around 70% of production, is the result of sustainable cultivation of four grape varieties typical of the appellation: Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The latter drew the nutrients necessary for their development from gravel soils which capture the heat of the day to return it to the vines at night. The ocean, not far away, offers lovely freshness to the berries which are vinified with as little intervention as possible. The aging, which lasts between 12 and 14 months, takes place in barrels in which the proportion of new wood reaches 70%.

Of great elegance, considered feminine, the wine has an aging potential of up to thirty years.
