Glengoyne Distillery is part of Ian MacLeod's distillery near Glengoyne. She also produces the Six Isles and the Smokehead. The distilleries are based in Dumgoyne, in the Scottish Highlands north of Glasgow, but their barrels mature in the Lowlands. Glengoyne ("Wild Goose Valley") is one of the few distilleries not to dry barley with peat smoke, but hot air. The result is a complex, subtle whiskey with a pure malt flavor, complemented by a touch of sherry and apple.
Tasting notes:
Dress: Natural, rich gold
Nose: A touch of sweet lemon quickly follows the smell of hot caramelized popcorn.
Palace: A film of oil in the mouth. Sweet citrus flavors with walnut and cinnamon accents.
Final: Dry with a hint of oak.
