The Different Types of Champagne

Champagne, the iconic sparkling wine from its namesake region, exists in several styles that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship. Understanding the different types helps you select the perfect cuvée for any taste or occasion.

Main Champagne categories:

  • Brut: The most common. Dry and balanced, ideal as an aperitif or with meals.
  • Extra Brut: Very low in sugar, appealing to lovers of purity.
  • Brut Nature / Zero Dosage: No added sugar, the driest style.
  • Sec, Demi-Sec, Doux: Sweeter styles, perfect with desserts.
  • Blanc de Blancs: Made exclusively from Chardonnay, elegant and fresh.
  • Blanc de Noirs: Made from Pinot Noir and/or Pinot Meunier, fuller-bodied.
  • Rosé: Made by blending or maceration, combining freshness and fruitiness.
  • Vintage: Only produced in the best years, suitable for aging.
  • Prestige / Special Cuvée: The finest expression from top Champagne houses.

Each Champagne type offers unique character. Whether it’s for a refined aperitif, a gourmet meal, or a celebration, there’s always a Champagne to suit the moment.
