Champagne Henriot - Brut «Souverain» 150cl
The LVMH group bought the brand in 1987, before yielding it in 1994 to
the tough and visionary Joseph Henriot, who had run Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin
for eight years. Joseph Henriot, 76, and his son Thomas, now president, have
chosen an original production organization. From their typical supply of
Chardonnay and Grand Cru, they entrusted the development of their wines
in service to the cooperative society of producers of great terroirs of Champagne.
The house has aging cellar in Reims. It can count on historical supplies in
Côte des blancs and Montagne de Reims. She made a specialty of straight champagnes,
fine and dominated by a austere Chardonnay. The Henriot family has acquired
several estates in Burgundy (Bouchard Père et Fils, William Fèvre) and in Beaujolais (Villa Ponciago).
OUR OPINION ON THE HOUSE OF CHAMPAGNE HENRIOT (15/20)
The Henriot family has focused in recent years on its acquisitions of vineyards
in Burgundy and Beaujolais. The range of champagnes is maintained,
without shining, in a rigorous style. The brand needs a rejuvenation in its image.
This is the mission of the new team led by Thomas Henriot.
TASTING OF CHAMPAGNES HENRIOT
> Gross Sovereign
14.5 / 20
An attack in the mouth open and round, good introduction
to the style of champagnes Henriot house, but it ends on a drying note. Pity !
Price: 31 euros
> Gross Cuvée des Enchanteleurs 1999
16.5 / 20
50% Pinot Noir, 50% Chardonnay. A powerful vintage, dense,
more winey than air. A champagne table.
Price: 350 euros
THE EMBLEMATIC CUVÉE
> Blank white of whites
15/20
A chardonnay that retains a very lemony, frank touch, but that
expresses a marked sulphitic reduction, toasty notes and a mouth with a slightly dry finish.
Price: 37 euros
