Champagne Henriot - Brut «Souverain» 75cl
The LVMH group bought the brand in 1987,
before selling it in 1994
to the tough and visionary Joseph Henriot,
who had led
the Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin house
for eight years.
Joseph Henriot, 76, and his son Thomas,
now president,
chose an original production structure.
From their Chardonnay and Grand Cru supply,
they entrusted the winemaking
to the cooperative
of great Champagne terroirs.
The house has ageing cellars in Reims.
It can rely on historic supplies
from Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims.
It has specialized
in precise, refined champagnes,
often dominated by a slightly austere Chardonnay.
The Henriot family has also acquired estates
in Burgundy (Bouchard Père et Fils, William Fèvre)
and in Beaujolais (Villa Ponciago).
OUR OPINION ON MAISON HENRIOT (15/20)
In recent years,
the Henriot family has mainly focused
on vineyard acquisitions
in Burgundy and Beaujolais.
The champagne range remains steady,
without shining,
in a rigorist style.
The brand needs
a refreshed image.
This is the mission of the new team
led by Thomas Henriot.
TASTING – HENRIOT CHAMPAGNES
Brut Souverain
14.5/20
An open and round attack on the palate,
a good introduction to the Henriot style,
but it ends
on a drying note.
