Glengoyne Distillery is part of Ian MacLeod's distillery near Glengoyne. She also produces the Six Isles and the Smokehead. The distilleries are based in Dumgoyne, in the Scottish Highlands north of Glasgow, but their barrels mature in the Lowlands.
This unique blend of Ian MacLeod brings together the flavors of 6 Scotch whiskey islands (Islay, Jura, Skye, Mull, Orkney and Arran) mixed with high quality craftsmanship. The result is, according to whiskey critic Jim Murray, the best malt whiskey outside the luxury segment: "I have found in my lifetime" (Whiskey Bible, 2004). With notes of vanilla and barley.
Tasting notes:
Dress: Yellow, bright.
Nose: Complex structure. Spicy, peppery, slightly smoky, wine gums, notes of heather flowers. Light sea breeze.
Palate: Rich, sweet oil with subtle hints of freshly cut wood, citrus and a hint of peat.
Finale: Sweet, salty and sweet. Long and soothing.
